Another Great Year - Our Highlights of Pembrokeshire 2017!

It’s been another fantastic year here in lovely north Pembrokeshire and our guests have certainly enjoyed holidaying in one of the most picturesque spots in Britain. So we thought we’d have a quick look back at 2017 and share a few of our highlights!

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

Each year, thousands of people come to enjoy nature at its best in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and 2017 was no exception. With numerous events taking place at venues across the Park throughout the holiday season and all that beautiful landscape to explore there was plenty to offer visitors of every kind. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path, possibly the most famous part of the Park, has been as popular as always - we should know as it skirts our beautiful hotel grounds! In fact, this year saw the entire 186 mile route being added to Google Streetview, so if you’re planning a walking trip to Pembrokeshire in 2018 you can get a real taste of what’s in store for you!

Island Boat Trips

The wildlife on and around Pembrokeshire’s rugged islands continues to thrive which meant it was another fantastic year to take a boat trip. Common and Rissos dolphins were regularly sighted as were porpoises and Minke whales, while glimpses of rarer species like basking sharks and sunfish were a special treat for this year’s visitors. Thousands of grey seals made their usual trip to the islands’ rocky shores for the mating and pupping seasons and could be seen basking beneath cliffs teeming with a huge variety of nesting seabirds. Our quirky little Puffins were particularly prolific this year with the Skomer Island population being the highest since modern records began.

Music Festivals

Whether you’re a fan of classical, folk, rock or jazz music there’s a music festival for you somewhere in Pembrokeshire! Our festivals are going from strength to strength with the Lost Cove, Unearthed, Big Retreat, Rock the Castle and Fishguard’s International Music, Folk and Aberjazz Festivals being particularly popular. Of course, with our close proximity and historical links to St Davids Cathedral, our favourite musical celebration was the Cathedral Festival which took place at the end of May. What could be better than spending a week enjoying choral, classical, folk and jazz music in a stunning 12th century building with incomparable acoustics? We thoroughly recommend joining us for what is sure to be an equally sensational St Davids Cathedral Festival next year!

Beaches

Of course, one thing Pembrokeshire is famous for is its incredible beaches - from huge sandy swathes to secluded rocky coves our stunning shores are a lovely place to spend your holiday - many are dog friendly too!. Not only are our beaches renowned for their beauty, they’re some of the cleanest in the UK. 2017 was the 30th anniversary of the global Blue Flag programme and Pembrokeshire’s beaches were rewarded with 12 of these prestigious awards, as well as 14 Green Coast Awards and 30 Seaside Awards. As if that wasn’t enough, our gorgeous Barafundle Bay was voted one of the top 25 beaches in the world! So, if a seaside holiday is in your plans for 2018 come to Pembrokeshire and enjoy some of the best beaches you’ll ever visit.

Pembrokeshire: Land of Legends

Throughout 2017, the rich history and mythology of the county was celebrated with ‘Pembrokeshire: Land of Legends’. From stupid giants and dancing fairies to lake monsters and kidnapped princesses, the tall tales of ancient West Wales were shared in castles and historic venues across Pembrokeshire. Maps and walks that linked into these fascinating legends also allowed visitors to explore the sites where battles were fought, ghostly apparitions have been sighted and mythical beasts were once said to roam! The Land of Legends proved really popular with locals and visitors alike but you’ll be pleased to hear that the fun doesn’t stop there - with the coming year being designated ‘Year of the Sea’, there will be plenty to look forward to when you visit Pembrokeshire in 2018.

We’re passionate about helping you to enjoy our wonderful county as much as we do!
