A Taste of Wales: Why Pembrokeshire is Foodie Heaven
Christmas is arguably the best time of year for the avid foodie - tucking into all those tasty festive favourites is a big part of the holiday and something most of us look forward to all year. But did you know you can enjoy fantastic cuisine all year round when you visit Pembrokeshire? With plenty of food festivals, artisan producers and farmers markets, as well as some of the best restaurants and pub grub in Wales, it’s the place to come if you’re looking for a gastronomic treat.
Pembrokeshire’s Fabulous Food Festivals
With our lengthy coastline and famously clean waters, it’s no surprise that fish and sea food feature highly on a Pembrokeshire menu! If you visit our coastal towns in the summer, it’s not unusual to find a fish festival to enjoy.
Every other year in June, Pembrokeshire Fish Week sees thousands flock to various seaside locations in a celebration of all things fishy. Although the next one isn’t scheduled until 2021, there’s still Milford Fish Festival to enjoy in the meantime - where you can taste our fresh local produce, learn about the Pembrokeshire Coast, pick up some expert cookery tips and have plenty of fun in the sun.
Milford haven is also the venue for a popular Street Food Festival in August. It’s a great event for anyone who fancies checking out some of the delicious wares lovingly crafted by local artisan producers.
Closer to home, the Really Wild Food and Countryside Festival 2020 comes to Oriel y parc in St Davids. It’s a brilliant place for all the family to learn about local wild foods and the art of foraging, and it’s all within walking distance of Warpool Court Hotel!
South Beach in Tenby is another place to head to if you want to discover more of West Wales’ best food and drink. The Pembrokeshire Street Food Festival is returning for Summer 2020, promising a weekend of culinary fun in one of West Wales's prettiest seaside towns.
Moving inland and rounding the season off in style, the charming market town of Narberth hosts its renowned 2-day Food Festival in September. It’s a top spot to get stuck in to some real delights – an absolute must-do if you’re in the area.
Discovering Pembrokeshire’s best pubs, restaurants and local produce markets
Wherever you go in Pembrokeshire, you’re never far from a great eatery. As a rural area with a huge coastline, fresh produce is at the heart of most menus here - whether that’s fantastically fresh seafood straight off the boat or prime beef from a local herd. We’ve got everything from award-winning fine dining restaurants to inns serving some of the heartiest, tastiest pub grub in Wales.
As for a classic British seaside staple, we’ve got it made! With such great produce landed locally, Pembrokeshire’s definitely the place to come if you love fish and chips. With a good old chippy to be found in most towns and villages, you’ll never go hungry.
If you’re a fan of a farmers market or enjoy wandering around a farm shop, you’re in luck too. You'll come across many of them as you explore the quiet country lanes but the St Dogmaels Market in the far north of the county is particularly popular with locals and visitors alike.
And if you like a tipple, why not take a trip inland to Cwm Deri Vineyard for a taste test? (Just remember to take a designated driver with you!) Or you can take a tour of one of the many microbreweries that have popped up across the county in recent years. You can read more about two of our favourite local microbreweries near St Davids here.
Our Sea View Restaurant
Of course, a blog about great Pembrokeshire food wouldn’t be complete without including our Sea View Restaurant here at Warpool Court Hotel. Our chef is an expert at letting the quality local produce speak for itself and our menu reflects our passion for all things Pembrokeshire. As well as fine cuisine, we’re lucky to have one of the best hotel views in the world – with a dining room that overlooks our gorgeous gardens as they slope away towards the Coast Path and sparkling sea beyond.
