Pembrokeshire 2018 – Year of the Sea!
This year in Pembrokeshire we're celebrating our incredible coast as 2018 is the Year of the Sea! With over 50 beaches, 186 miles of coast path and spectacular wildlife-packed islands dotted along our shores, the sea has always played an important role in the history and culture of Pembrokeshire. It's also something that's very close to our hearts here at Warpool Court Hotel! Our prime location in one of the most beautiful and dramatic parts of Britain's only coastal National Park means we're lucky enough to enjoy some of the most breath-taking sea views in Britain. There's nowhere better to experience the majesty of the Pembrokeshire Coast, so why not stay with us and join the nautical celebrations in 2018?
Nature and wildlife
From the precise beauty of our immaculate Italianate terraces down to the wilder, natural edges of our fifteen-acre gardens adjoining the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, we get to experience the stunning seasonal transformations in the coastal landscape. In spring and summer, bluebells and delicate wildflowers carpet clifftop meadows, while autumn and winter see coastal hillsides swathed in pink and purple heather. On the shoreline, rock-pools draped in colourful seaweed teem with tiny sea creatures and golden sands stretch for miles.
The towering cliffs of north Pembrokeshire are home to a wide variety of seabirds and at certain times of the year you can watch seals and their pups soaking up the sunshine in secluded coves along the coast and on Pembrokeshire's remote islands. Out in the clean, blue waters there are plenty of opportunities to see our incredible marine wildlife with dolphins, porpoises, sharks, and Minke whales being regular visitors to our shores. Join one of the many excursions from the boat tour operators on our doorstep for a closer look and the chance to explore the unique wildlife havens of Pembrokeshire's rugged islands.
Action and adventure
With our outstanding water quality, milder microclimate and wonderful scenery, Pembrokeshire is one of the most popular spots in the UK for watersport enthusiasts. There are a wide variety of watersport companies up and down the coast, so you're sure to find the perfect activity for you! Our surging tides are particularly renowned in surfing circles and it's one of the most practised activities along our shores - from beginners' body-boarding in small, gentle waves to riding the crashing surf of nearby Whitesands Bay there are conditions to suit surfers of all levels.
Kayaking, kite-surfing and sailing are also great ways to have some fun on the water whilst exploring the coastline. For the seriously adventurous, a sport that's become popular in recent years is coasteering. Up here in north Pembrokeshire we've got the perfect coasteering environment and experienced providers, so if launching yourself from cliffs and plunging into the foamy swell appeals to you, this is the place to do it! As well as water-based adventures, our beaches are the venue for a huge number of activities from iron-man competitions to beach rugby or just a quick game of football with the kids. For horse-lovers, a trip to the Pembrokeshire Coast is an absolute must - a canter through the surf along one of our vast sandy beaches is an experience that will stay with you for a lifetime.
At our Seaview Restaurant we're always passionate about championing the outstanding local produce and seafood naturally plays a very big part in Pembrokeshire's cuisine. If you're a fan of sweet crab and succulent prawns, rich mackerel and tender sole, the catch-of-the-day in Pembrokeshire is sure to hit the spot. As well as enjoying the huge variety of fresh fish and seafood landed by local fishermen in our many coastal villages, we also have a bit of a taste for seaweed in these parts! If you've tried it, you'll know why we love it so much, if you haven't then we're pretty sure Pembrokeshire is the best place to take your first taste. Although fresh seafood is a staple of many eateries in the area, if you visit us in early July you can experience the culinary delights of Pembrokeshire Fish Week where cafes and restaurants in towns and villages across the county celebrate local fish and seafood with special menus and events. Whenever you come and stay, you'll have plenty of opportunities to eat some of the freshest, tastiest seafood that our clean local waters have to offer!
