Summer Fun on Pembrokeshire’s Best Beaches

It’s no secret that Pembrokeshire has some of the best beaches in the UK, if not the world. From tiny, sheltered sandy bays to vast golden expanses that stretch for miles you’re spoilt for choice with over 50 to visit. Whether you’re looking for the perfect family beach, a place to try out lots of watersports or simply somewhere relaxing to indulge in a bit of sunbathing, we’ve got the beach for you! Here are four Warpool Court guest favourites!

Overlooked by the imposing craggy hill of Carn Llidi, the wide expanse of fine white sand at Whitesands Bay provides some of the best surfing in Wales. This popular family beach not far from Warpool Court Hotel has great facilities, plenty of parking and sand that is just begging to be made into sandcastles. You can keep children entertained when the tide goes out with a spot of rockpooling, while the flat sandy beach provides the perfect surface for a quick game of cricket or rounders. With local lifeguards keeping watch over paddlers, bathers and bodyboarders, this safe, gently sloping beach is big enough to accommodate everybody.

For the adventurous and action orientated family, a trip to the watersport paradise of Dale is just the ticket. Sheltered in a wide bay with easy access to the sea this pebble and sand beach provides the perfect spot for youngsters to learn to paddleboard, sail, windsurf or kayak, with experienced RYA instructors on hand to show novices the ropes. For those aged 12 and over who like a bit of an adrenaline rush, a visit to the local watersports school to have a go a powerboating is a must.

Freshwater East

The wide expanse of golden sand at Freshwater East is backed by dunes and has a stream running through the beach at its southern end. Low tide reveals plenty of space for all types of ball games without the worry of getting in the way of the neighbours. The low cliffs at the eastern end provide some nice private bays for a spot of sunbathing or just chilling out. This unspoilt, relatively quiet and toddler friendly beach has all the usual facilities and is a lovely spot to enjoy a family picnic (complete with sand in your sandwiches, of course)! It’s also a great place to have a go at the usual array of watersports and is popular with sea fishing enthusiasts too.

Tenby is a delight for families, with several safe award-winning beaches to choose from, lots of activities and all the essentials you need for children close to hand. With shops, some lovely cafes and restaurants, lifeguards and great ice cream it really does have everything a true seaside resort should have. The pretty harbour town provides easy access to all beaches with each one having its own merits. Castle Beach is the easiest to get to and is great for toddlers and babies, North Beach has its own beachfront snack-bar and Goscar Rock to clamber on and South Beach has plenty of space for running around.
