The Best Things to do in North Pembrokeshire This Year!

The beauty of a holiday in north Pembrokeshire is that there’s something for everyone, whatever time of year you visit. Whether you’re planning a romantic minibreak, walking holiday or full-on family vacation, there are plenty of events and activities on offer, from musical concerts and sporting events to peaceful walks and island adventures. So, here are a few calendar highlights to help you plan the best time to come and stay with us at Warpool Court Hotel!

May

Mild and tranquil, it’s a nice time of year to come walking in Pembrokeshire, whether you fancy wandering across the wild moorland of the Preseli hills or hiking along some of the most beautiful stretches of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path (which you’ll find at the bottom of our gardens).

The end of May is a great time for music-lovers. The Fishguard Folk Festival brings concerts, ceilidhs and singalongs to delight visitors to this charming seaside town; whilst here on our doorstep, the St Davids Cathedral Festival will run from 25th May to 3rd June, with classical musicians and choral singers making the most of this beautiful 12th century building’s acoustics.

June

A June visit is a good idea if you’re after a quiet break between the Easter and Summer seasons. Bird watchers are in for a real treat as Pembrokeshire is one of the few places in Britain to you’ll get to visit our favourite summer visitors – the puffins! June is a prime time to join one of the local boat tours and take a trip to the remote Skomer Island to see these lovely little birds up close.

Local gardens are in full bloom by now and you can spend a relaxing day out exploring some hidden gems. Hilton Court Gardens has quiet woodland walks and sculpture trails, while in the picturesque Gwaun Valley, Penlan Uchaf and Dyffryn Fernant Gardens boast fabulous flowers and spectacular views across the Preseli Hills.

July

A great month to start enjoying the best of Pembrokeshire’s beaches! With over 50 to choose from, there’s something to suit everyone, whether you want to explore rock pools with the kids, play games on the sand or enjoy a romantic sunset stroll. Low tide is a good time to visit the nearby sandy cove of Caerfai Beach and Whitesands Beach on the northern coastline is a great place to while away a few hours, especially if you like surfing.

There’s fun to be had in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park too, with lots of events taking place throughout the summer, including historical walks, nature trails and the chance to explore the famous lighthouse on Strumble Head.

August

Pembrokeshire at the height of summer is a great for families, with plenty of child-friendly activities and events. Here in the north, an increasingly popular place to visit is Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm, a fun experience for kids of all ages, especially those brave enough to try a few insects for lunch! If sporting adventures are more your thing, you’re spoilt for choice with horse riding, coasteering, kayaking, sailing, surfing, cycling and much more on offer.

If you’d rather spend time enjoying some jazz and blues music in eclectic venues around the nearby towns of Fishguard and Goodwick, the Aber Jazz Festival is something to put in your diary from the 23rd to the 27th of the month.

September

In September the dramatic coastline and Pembrokeshire’s rugged islands are teeming with life - peer down from the coast path or take a boat trip to watch seals and their pups nestling in rocky coves, while huge colonies of seabirds circle the skies as they prepare to fly south for the winter.

If food is your passion, pop down to Oriel y Parc Visitor Centre where you can try wild food foraging in the St Davids countryside or drive further south to the market town of Narberth where the popular annual Food Festival takes place on the 22nd and 23rd of September.

Of course, we couldn’t possibly fit everything onto our list, but if you need more information on local attractions during your stay, our reception staff are always happy to point you in the right direction.
